We hope to see you at this summer's Chamber Music by the Sea festival, August 4-10, 2024! We are so excited to share some glorious chamber music with you, nestled in our gorgeous little corner of the world.
“This place has everything… except a chamber music festival!” That was the thought that ran through the mind of Elena Urioste, violinist and Chamber Music by the Sea’s Artistic Director, over 20 years ago when she first visited Berlin, Maryland. The stunning beauty of the Assateague Island National Seashore, picturesque charm of the towns of Berlin and Snow Hill, delicious local food, a real appreciation for art of all varieties — it seemed like an ideal location to set up a summer chamber music festival. In 2016, Elena did just that, bringing some of her closest friends and colleagues to the area to soak in some prime summer sun and make music. The festival, now an annual August event, has bloomed to include concerts in Snow Hill, South Point, and Ocean Pines in addition to Berlin. Chamber Music by the Sea also has a firm commitment to music education, involving young local musicians in outreach activities and in the summer concerts themselves, and connects with the community throughout the academic year with local in-school visits and Virtual Visiting Artist appearances. Chamber Music by the Sea, generously sponsored by the Worcester County Education Foundation with ongoing support from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, is a completely symbiotic festival, the musicians deriving as much joy from the gorgeous scenery and warmth of the locals as the audience does from the world class musicianship infusing Maryland’s Eastern Shore each summer.
